Disclaimer for Homeowners Using This Matching Service
This page explains what BedrockMatch does, what it does not do, and what you should expect when using the service. It is written for homeowners who want clear, practical information before sharing their contact details or speaking with contractors.
What this service does
BedrockMatch is a free matching service for homeowners. We help connect homeowners in earthquake and storm-risk areas with local contractors that offer services related to retrofit and hazard-mitigation work. Homeowners do not pay BedrockMatch to be matched. Participating contractors pay a flat fee to be introduced. BedrockMatch does not take a commission, percentage, or any cut of the project cost.
To help make a match, we collect basic information about your home and project needs, along with your contact details. This may include your name, phone number, email address, property address, home type, and a short description of the work you are asking about. You can start the process at get matched, free.
We share the information you submit with vetted participating contractors so they can contact you about possible next steps. We may also use your information to follow up about your request, confirm details, or improve how the matching process works.
For privacy, we collect home basics and contact details only. We do not ask for or need your bank account numbers, credit card numbers, Social Security number, or immigration status in order to use this matching service.
What this service does not do
BedrockMatch is not a contractor, structural engineer, architect, public adjuster, attorney, or licensed home inspector. We do not perform construction work, inspections, engineering design, code review, or legal services. Information on this website is general educational information only.
We do not tell you what retrofit your home needs, whether a particular repair is required, whether work will pass inspection, or whether a project is right for your property. Only a licensed contractor, engineer, or other qualified professional who evaluates the home can confirm that.
We also do not guarantee any project outcome. That means no promise that a home will survive an earthquake, hurricane, or storm, no promise of a particular level of safety or damage reduction, and no promise of insurance savings, permit approval, or resale value.
If you want to learn about the kinds of work contractors may offer, you can review our general services, but treat that information as a starting point, not a diagnosis for your home.
Your choice and responsibility as a homeowner
You stay in control of the process at all times. Using BedrockMatch does not require you to hire anyone, sign a contract, or move forward with a project. The choice of whether to request estimates, which contractor to speak with, and who to hire is always yours.
You are responsible for reviewing proposals carefully and deciding whether the scope and price make sense for your home. Before signing anything, ask questions until the work is clear in writing.
Helpful items to confirm include:
- the exact scope of work
- materials to be used
- who obtains permits, if needed
- estimated schedule and payment terms
- warranty details, if any
- cleanup and change-order process
If something is important to you, ask to have it written into the contract. Verbal statements are easier to misunderstand than written terms.
How contractor information should be verified
BedrockMatch may screen participating contractors before allowing them to receive homeowner requests, but you should still verify each contractor yourself. Matching is not a substitute for your own review.
Before you hire anyone, confirm the contractor's current license status in your state, and check whether the contractor is properly bonded and insured for the type of work being offered. Ask for the legal business name and verify that the paperwork matches the company you are speaking with.
A practical checklist:
- Verify the license with the state licensing agency.
- Ask for proof of bond and insurance.
- Confirm the written scope, price, and payment schedule.
- Ask who will do the work and whether subcontractors will be used.
- Keep copies of estimates, contracts, permits, and change orders.
If you no longer want to hear from us or from contractors connected to your request, you may opt out. You can follow the unsubscribe instructions in messages, tell us directly, or ask the contractor to stop contacting you. By submitting your request, you agree that BedrockMatch and participating contractors may contact you about your inquiry by phone, text message, or email, including through automated technology where allowed by law. This is intended as TCPA consent for contact about your request, not a condition of buying any service.
Estimates, timelines, and project results
Any price ranges, timelines, examples, or project descriptions on this website are typical illustrative ranges only. Actual cost and timing depend on the home, region, site conditions, permit requirements, materials, contractor availability, and the final scope of work.
An estimate is not the same as a final contract price. Once a contractor visits the property, opens finishes, checks access, or reviews plans and permit requirements, the price or schedule may change. Hidden conditions can also affect the job.
Project results vary. Even well-planned work cannot eliminate all risk from earthquakes, hurricanes, heavy rain, wind, or other events. BedrockMatch does not make guarantees about safety, code compliance, damage reduction, insurance premiums, or future performance.
If you receive more than one estimate, compare the scope as well as the price. The lowest number is not always the same work.
Public programs and possible financial help
Some homeowners may qualify for public programs that can help with hazard-mitigation work. These programs have their own rules, funding limits, deadlines, and eligibility requirements.
For example, California homeowners can check whether they qualify for the Earthquake Brace + Bolt (EBB) program, which may provide up to about $3,000 toward qualifying seismic retrofit work. In some areas, homeowners may also check whether FEMA hazard-mitigation grants or other local programs are available.
These programs are not guaranteed, and availability can change. BedrockMatch does not approve grants, determine eligibility, or promise reimbursement. Ask the program directly and ask your contractor what documentation may be needed.
When to seek licensed professional advice
If you need to know what your home specifically needs, when permits are required, whether plans must be stamped, or whether existing damage affects the structure, ask a licensed contractor or licensed engineer to inspect the property. If you need advice about insurance, contracts, liability, landlord-tenant issues, disclosure, or claims, speak with your insurer or an attorney.
BedrockMatch does not provide engineering opinions, building-code determinations, or legal advice. We are a marketing and matching service only.
Seek licensed professional advice when:
- you see cracks, settlement, rot, or water damage
- a contractor recommends major structural work
- you want a second opinion on scope or price
- you need permit, code, or contract guidance
The short version: use BedrockMatch to make introductions, then rely on licensed professionals for property-specific decisions.
